‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’
(John 1:1-5)
Genesis 1:1 is not the beginning of all things. It is the beginning of heaven (the one just above us) and of the Earth. There are multiple heavens(ref. 2 Corinthians 12:2) and notice that even the most ancient versions Genesis 1:1 mention the word ‘heaven’ in singular.
Genesis 1:1 is not the beginning of the current civilization we know and it is an event that occurred approximately 4.5 billions years ago. The current civilization we know is approximately 6000 years old. But the Earth existed for close to 4.5 billion years. Genesis 1:2 is the beginning of our current civilization and it is the beginning of the first week starting those approximate 6000 years.
Between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2, there is a long history and God willing, it will be part of one of my teachings one day.
The Earth and our heaven (or the sky) are part of the universe. The universe was created by God , the universe is not God (as new agers would make us believe). The author of Hebrews specifically mentions that God created the ‘worlds’ ( ref.Hebrews 11:3). This means, in the universe, there are many worlds ( some we don’t even know of). You need to remember that because a great alien deception is in the making and they will lie to you by saying that ‘aliens created you’.
But this is not the main topic of today…
If you want to know the beginning of all things, you have to find it in John 1:1-5 and in Colossians 1:15-17.
Colossians 1:15-17 says:
‘ The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.’
Jesus is the beginning (ref. Revelation 22:13). That’s how He introduces Himself. I don’t need a theologian to tell me otherwise. What Jesus says is enough.
God is not the beginning because he is not confined to time. He is from everlasting to everlasting (Psalm 90:2). Everlasting to Everlasting is a place where time does not exist.
God the Father does not place Himself as the beginning, He is above that.
In the beginning of everything was Jesus and Jesus is the Word. That same word you hold in your Bible.
It means that if we had to give Jesus an age, he would probably be ‘multiple’ trillions of years and beyond. Do not be afraid when scientists claim that the universe existed for many billions of years. Such scientific statements should not scare you. On the contrary, they are confirming the supremacy of our God above time.
Nobody can limit such a Person who has existed for multiple trillions of years. Paul was clear in Colossians 1:15-17 by writing that ‘all powers and authorities and thrones (you can imagine) were in Him’. No wonder Jesus was able to command away problems, diseases and demons.
The Jewish religious priests were constantly frustrated by Jesus because they could not restrain Him. Even Death could not limit Him. Jesus existed before Death.
But here is one of the nuggets of this post:
‘When we face challenges and issues, we tend to get lost in a human based thinking or solutions we elevate as priority remedies.’
‘Many people enter into new seasons of decisions by consulting themselves as the first source instead of consulting God.’
One of my best friends (who operate in the prophetic and evangelism) used to ask this question whenever I would open up to him about my issues:
‘What did God say to you?’
My friend knew my spiritual level and he figured that there was no way God would not have spoken to me. And my friend was right.
I’ve had situations where God would speak to me before the problem occurs. I ‘ve had situations where God would speak to me after a personal disaster and upon obeying His Word, I would see a total reversal of the effects caused by the personal disaster.
Jesus is the beginning. He must be consulted first when we make decisions. He can be consulted when we are in a mess and the application of His word can even reverse years of disastrous effects to a beginning where those problems did not exist.
Jesus’ miracles had ‘beginning flavor’ associated with them. When He fed the 4000 people, He brought them to the beginning where Adam and Eve could eat food without paying for it. When He died at the cross, He brought humanity back to the beginning before the Fall.
In John 5, Jesus heals a man who was paralysed for 38 years. When Jesus healed Him, He canceled 38 years of paralysis and brought the man back to the beginning. If you read the story, you will notice that the man was hoping to be healed in a pool of water stirred by an angel but he could not.
The angel, the pool water were not the beginning. Jesus existed before the angel and the water. As a matter of facts, the angel and the water were created through Jesus ( Colossians 1:15-17). I can assume that angels would be billions or millions of years old. This means that when the paralysed man encountered Jesus, he skipped the angel and the pool water, he skipped billions of years.
When the 12 disciples lived with Jesus for approximately 3 years, they were skipping trillions of years in class lessons and knowledge. There was no way that they would have no impact on the world when Jesus left.
Even John wrote this in John 21:25: ‘ Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.’
Imagine the Earth. Now imagine that the same Earth cannot contain all books counting all the acts of Jesus. Now imagine that the 12 disciples spent 3 years with a Person like this. The 12 Apostles skipped trillions of years in learning.
Whenever we face an issue, whenever we want to make a crucial decision, let us ask: ‘in the beginning was the word and what is the word saying?’
This means that the Beginning (Jesus) addresses everything in our lives. This means when face an issue or seeking a solution or an answer (even of a non-existent question), we can go to His Word and apply it as a ‘beginning remedy’.
