THE POSITION OF ABRAHAM (part 2): the evidential power of God
Now, we know that we are heirs according to the promise (ref. Galatians 3:29). This means that what Abraham had, we have also.
In Genesis 12:1-4, God says:
‘I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you’
Notice that in verse 3, God said: ‘I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you I will curse.’
Verse 3 implies the presence of good connections and the presence of enemies. Simply because we are heirs of Abraham or simply because we are Christians, it does not mean that we will not have enemies from time to time.
There is a very important lesson we can learn from the story of Abraham: ‘the blessing of God places us in a position of strength.’
The blessing on Abraham was the type of blessing that could generate a well in the desert, the type of blessing that would make a 90 year old woman pregnant.
In Genesis 21:22-34, Abraham comes to good terms with Abimelech the King of Philistine. Abimelech decides to live in peace and friendship with Abraham simply because he saw that God was with Abraham in everything he did (Genesis 21:22). That one observation of divine power was enough to convince Abimelech.
Sometimes,there will be many situations where people, institutions and governments will not respect you if they don’t see the evidence of God’s power in your life. That divine power was visible in ‘everything Abraham did. Not in everything he dreamt of or thought of, but in everything he did.
Once people see the evident power of God’s presence in everything you do, they will do everything to be at peace with you. However, the opposite is also true: ‘when people don’t see any evidence of God’s power in the life of a Christian, it becomes easy for that same Christian to attract dishonor, despise, enmity and adversarial activities.
During Abraham’s time, people knew one thing: ‘if a person dares attacking Abraham in any way, that person will be cursed or die.’
The message was clear.
There’s got to be a point where we will have to clearly reflect this message: ‘if you touch me negatively, you will be cursed or you will die.’
The positive aspect of this reality is this: ‘the evident power of God in everything you do, will attract favour, friendship and kindness from others.’
How to activate God’s evidential power:
I will briefly mention certain things that activate God’s evidential power:
Preaching the Gospel: preaching the Gospel to lost souls can increase your wisdom (ref. Proverbs 11:30) and it is accompanied by signs and wonders (ref. Mark 16:15-19).
Serving the Lord: ‘God makes His servants flames of fire (ref. Psalms 104:4). In the spiritual realms, dark spiritualists see God’s servants as flames of fire. Furthermore, the promise in Isaiah 54:17 is reserved for the servants of God.
Meditating on the Book of the Law Day and Night: there is a lot of transformative power accompanied with meditating the Book of the Law, at least twice a day. It attracts success (ref. Joshua 1:8).
Obeying God:’ I won’t say much about it. Jesus obeyed God. Abraham obeyed God. If any Christian despises obedience to God, that Christian is eroding himself/herself from the foundations of Christian faith (ref. Matthew 7:24-27). There cannot be any evidential power in a person who never obeys God.
Confessing the Scriptures: ‘ the word of God is the sword of the Spirit (ref. Eph. 6:17). We confess what the Scripture says and not what our feelings say.
Manifest the evidential power of God.
