THE POSITION OF ABRAHAM (part 1)
In Galatians 3:29, Paul wrote: ‘ If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.’
If we belong to Christ, then we have inherited the promise that he received in Genesis 12:1-4.
In Genesis 12:1-4, God said to Abraham:
‘“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.’
Your name will be great
God promised Abraham to make his name great. The word ‘great’ is defined as something of someone that is above average. The name also refers to ability or honor above average.
In the first place,if we are heirs of the promise, then our names should be above average. Our names should be connected to honorable things that are above average and such was the case with Abraham.
What are the things mentioned when people mention or search for your name?
You will be a blessing
After promising greatness, God promised Abraham that he will be a blessing. The word ‘blessing’ is commonly defined as ‘God’s favour and protection’. The blessing of God is a form of empowerment that allows its recipient to do God’s will and to live supernaturally.
As much as we are already blessed, we should not limit ourselves to the reception of that blessing. We ought to be a blessing to others. Notice that God did not tell Abraham: ‘you will be a blessing only to the Jews or only to a certain group of people.’ God never said that.
As a matter of biblical facts, God said that Abraham would bless all the peoples of the Earth.
The word ‘blessing’ refers to a form of empowerment, God’s favour and protection. When we are a blessing to others, the recipients of our blessings should see and taste: ‘God’s favour, protection and empowerment.’
How do our speech and actions display God’s favour to others?
How do our speech and actions give protection to others?
How do our conducts and actions empower others for righteous matters?
The three above questions can be used as a good barometer on how we live as blessings to others.
Let’s live in the position that Abraham had.
