ONLY A FEW THINGS MATTER

'As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

                                                                                                                              (Luke 10:38-42)

While Martha was busy like any people are distracted, Mary kept her focus on the better part.

Notice what Jesus said in verses 41-42: ‘ you are worried and upset about many things but only a few things are needed’

If Satan cannot kill you, he will work hard at distracting you through many things. In order to avoid his distracting tactics, you will need the discernment to know what is from God and what is not from God.

In Romans 12:1-4, the Apostle Paul wrote:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.’

True proper worship consists in giving our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. Once we refuse to conform to the pattern of this world while being transformed through the renewing of our mind by submitting ourselves to the word of God, then we will be able to discern and approve God’s will.

In this world, many things will scream for our attention but only a few things matter in your God given destiny. Not all challenges and fights should be embraced, not all issues should be dealt with. Only a few things matter. And on top of the list of things that matter, are the teachings of Jesus.
