Spiritual warfare 8:The sword of the Spirit

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people’.

(Ephesians 6:10-18)

One of the reasons why the devil gets motivated in attacking the children of God, is because of the lack of offensive attacks against him. Most parts of our armor are designed to protect but the Sword of the Spirit is designed to attack.

When Jesus was confronted by satan in Matthew 4:1-11, He used the Scriptures to push back satan. As Paul mentions in Ephesians 6:17, the Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. A Sword is primarily designed to attack.

Imagine for a moment that a soldier goes to war with his entire armor while forgetting his sword...that soldier will definitely have a bad day on the field of war. By using the Sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God), we give satan a motivation to push back. Unfortunately, many children of God fail to use the Sword that was given to them.

Since Paul clearly states that the word of God is the Sword, then make full use of it. There are two ways you can make use of the word: 'by confessing it and by applying it'. You have to do both. Note that Word of God represents any word that comes out of His mouth and this includes the Scriptures and the personal revelations you have received directly from Him through visions, dreams, prophecies or words of knowledge.

Take note of what Jesus does in Matthew 4:1-11:

When satan told Him to turn stones into bread, Jesus replied: 'It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God'. Not only Jesus confessed the word but he was also feeding Himself from every word that comes from the mouth of God.

On the other hand, when the serpent approached Eve in Genesis 3, it is clear that she knew God's word concerning the tree and she even confesses what she knows to the serpent but she ultimately does not practice it. It is very dangerous to live a Christian life that excludes the practice of God's word. Since Adam and Eve did not practice what they knew, the serpent did not push back.

Those who know the word of God without practicing it, are similar to soldiers who are aware they have a sword but on the day of the battle, they fail to make use of it against their adversary.

When I was seriously oppressed by witches and a satanic high priest, I changed my prayer lifestyle by only reciting psalms for hours. The Scriptures are a Sword. When we speak them, witches, magicians and demons tend to push back. There are many passages of the Bible that have prayers and Worship contents. You can even recite a passage multiple times loudly. A few examples of those passages include:

Psalm 91, Psalm 23, Psalm 110 (one of my favorites for warfare because demonic forces can't stand the fact that Jesus has been enthroned to sit at the right hand of God), Revelation 5 (this passage is a very powerful one. Warlocks, witches, and demons can't stand to hear that Jesus has overcome and that He can open the scroll with its seven seals. They can't stand to hear that all creatures are praising and worshiping Him).

Furthermore, I also recommend that you confess and read out loud passages mentioning God's Judgement (You will find a few in the book of Psalms and Revelation). Witches, warlocks and demons are uncomfortable to hear those passages because they are aware of the existence of God and they tremble (ref. James 2:19) when hearing about Judgement Day.

You can even repeat a passage as many times as you want. There is nothing wrong about it. If the four beasts in Heaven are repeating one cantic (ref. Revelation 4:8), then it means that you can also repeat some of those Scriptural passages for as long as you want.

You will not necessarily see results instantly, but in the long run, you will definitely see them. Do not quit repeating the Scriptures.

Some of you are targeted by witches and warlocks who have sworn to never leave you in peace until you die. You must therefore fight back, otherwise you may leave widows, orphans and an unfulfilled life behind....the choice is yours.

Above all, you must not forget to utilize your authority by calling the Name of Jesus. This is how you do it:

You must speak with authority and command demons to depart in the Name of Jesus.

In John 1, the Bible says that Jesus is the Word made flesh. Since He is the Word, by calling out His Name, you are also making use of the Sword.

Practicing what you confess

There will be passages that will only require you to confess with your mouth. However, there are also passages that require practice. Without practicing those passages, the power of those Scriptural verses will be null and void.

Let me give you a few example:

Psalm 23:1: 'The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want'.

It is awesome to confess such a thing. However, if Jesus is your shepherd, it also means that He is the one leading (that's what shepherds do). Therefore, the sheep can only find provision where the shepherd leads it. But if the sheep goes wherever it wants, then it cannot rely on the provision from its master.

Certain people confess Psalm 23:1 but they live against God's will. Since God is not their shepherd, they should not expect provision from God.

Here is another example:

Isaiah 54:17 :'no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.'

It is great to confess the above passage. However, many people stop at the first part of the passage...While in truth, the promise of Isaiah 54:17 is reserved ONLY for the servants of God. I am not talking about those who serve God the way they want. I am talking about those who are serving God the way He wants them to serve Him. If you are not serving God or if you are living according to your will, the weapons of the enemy will prevail upon your life (unfortunately). To see the power of Isaiah 54:17, you will need to serve God.

'Serving God' is not only limited to being a full time preacher. 'Serving God' simply means 'doing God's will for the benefits of His Kingdom and to the benefit of humans'. In other words, church partners are serving God with money, church ushers are serving God with their hospitality, Intercessors are serving God with their prayers, church technicians are serving God with their skills. Those that God has called in the secular world for a specific tasks are serving God by doing His will. For those people (the true servants), no weapon of the enemy shall prevail.

This is a warning to all those who do not serve God:
'Some of you, when satan the devil (along with his witches) will make a claim on your life, they will succeed because the 'Isaiah 54:17' protection is not upon you'.

Does it scare you? Good. I hope it will give you a perspective and make you decide to serve the Lord correctly.

You are not just fighting for yourself

When you are kicking the devil with the sword, you are not just fighting for yourself. You are also fighting for other people, especially for those who depend on you (e.g: your children). Your losses in the spiritual world may affect your children (as it may not). There have been instances where a demonic force oppressed families for generations because nobody took a firm stance against it. If the devil kills a young person prematurely, it also means that his children will be affected...

Therefore I say to you: 'For the love of your dependents, do the right thing. Fight well.'

Let us not be like Eve and Adam who knew what the Word said about the forbidden tree, yet they acted contrary to the warning from God. As a result, we are all out of Eden....

Fight! Push the devil away with the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
